"The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts." - C.S. Lewis
The week of May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Please join with me in expressing thanks to those who give selfishly in their efforts to mold our future through our most valuable assets - our children!
During this past General Assembly session, I and my fellow delegates voted to continue to reform and improve our public schools. Our goal is to give every child a path to succeed in the classroom. We passed legislation to expedite SOL re-take tests and require schools to submit less paperwork to Richmond. We also provided a 1.5% teacher pay raise.
I plan to continue working to bring more reform to the SOL's and I disagree with those who seek to imposea single vision of a proper education on a diverse country with differing views, like supporters of the Common Core curriculum. I support polices that empower parents to make a difference from the bottom up and encourage educators and parents to share your suggestions for improvement with me.
Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for all you do for our children and the future of our great country!
