HALIFAX:
There has been a lot of local news this past week, chief of which is the mighty flooded Dan River. Businesses in South Boston and other locations have suffered a lot of damage because of the speed of the rising water. Although the river has now receded, the real work started with the clean-up.

I was at Staunton River State Park when the park hosted Governor McAuliffe on the last of his visits to 37 Virginia State Parks. The Commonwealth has much to offer with the natural beauty found at all these parks and I am proud that we have several in the 60th District.

Ted Bennett, former delegate and former executive director of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, was recognized for his contributions to the advancement of higher education in the region by the Halifax Education Foundation Board at the SVHEC. We were honored to have Secretary of Education Dietra Trent, a native of Halifax County, as one of the presentors. Mr. Bennett's portrait was unveiled at the event and will be placed on permanent display at the Center.

Congratulations to the town of Farmville on their announcement that CML Logistics will locate in the former Carbone building on Industrial Park Road and bring 15 new jobs! Great news!

Congratulations also to the town of South Boston. They are the recipients of $475,00 from the Governor's Industrial Revitalization Fund for the redevelopment of a derelict structure. This money is designated for the development of the Hotel John Randolph on Main Street. Upon completion, this new addition to the downtown area is expected to be a game-changer for South Boston.

The GOVirginia organization continues to formulate its mission in the advancement of economic development opportunities for the state. The Region 3 Council and Advisory Committees will be meeting at Berry Hill Conference Center in South Boston May 2 to continue developing a growth and diversification plan, which is the foundation on which all projects will be measured. I look forward to participating in this project.

I will be at my district legislative office for the remainder of the year. Please do not hesitate to contact me at 434/470-0077.

Thanks for your past confidence and for your future support!
